03/02/09 - Red-bellied Pitta Bird Week
The very first Iron Range Bird Week concluded yesterday and inital reports from John suggest that it was a great success. Only a few days into the tour John reported he had seen the most Red-bellied Pittas he had ever seen in his life - that's quite a statement coming from someone who's been to Iron Range so many times. The tour will now be known as the Red-bellied Pitta Bird Week.
So be sure to book your seat early on the Red-bellied Pitta Bird Week 2010.
03/02/09 - Red-bellied Pitta Tour 2008 Birdlist
The birdlist for the 2008 Red-bellied Pitta tour is now available to download from the wildlife tours page. Thank you to all participants for creating the very detailed list, comprised of an impressive 266 species! This tour will now be known as the Cape York and Iron Range Tour.
20/01/09 - Eastern Bristebird Update
On a recent survey of the Eastern Bristlebird population in the Border Ranges region, for NSW Parks and Wildlife Service, John located 5 active nests, some including eggs or young chicks. This is a great sign for the Eastern Bristlebird population and indicates that the habitat management performed by NSW Parks and Wildlife is working well. John Young Wildlife would like to thank the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service (particularly the Kyogle office) for their dedication in ensuring the survival of this threatened species.
